All of the Writerly Updates

Hey, everyone. So it’s been a hot minute since my last update. Truthfully, there isn’t that much to tell, but I’ll lay it all out anyway:

-Firstly, regarding The 13th Magic (my Middle-grade Fantasy). I heard back from the agent I’d been waiting on shortly after my last entry and it was a pass. I haven’t sent out more than a couple queries since then, and I’m more or less content to leave things be for now (since I’d burn myself out with all my other obligations, otherwise).

-Shattered Time, part of The Spectrum Chronicles (companion series to the Whispers of Nowhere Trilogy). I finished the first draft (finally!) on July 31st, 2020. That’s just over three years after it was started. I haven’t looked at it since, as I can’t help thinking it’s a hot mess that will require a LOT of attention to fix (and I just don’t have the mental bandwidth for it right now).

-I started and completed the fourth draft of Shadow & Flame (part of The Spectrum Chronicles and a prequel to Whispers of Nowhere, focusing on Phenex and Reeves). This went from August 5th to September 10th; currently I have two beta readers going over it, since I’m hoping (fingers crossed) to stop after a fifth and final draft. We’ll see whether that happens, though. If I need to do another draft or two, so be it.

-Since I’m struggling with a lack of mental bandwidth right now, as I mentioned, I’m taking some time to work on short stories. I’ve got one on the go so far that I’ve been working on sporadically since September 14th. I’m taking it slow so as to make sure each word serves a purpose. I don’t know who I’ll submit it to, but I have plans to submit it to a magazine when it’s done. The working title is “Split”. We’ll see if it sticks.

-Lastly, but certainly not least, there’s an official release date for The Masks We Wore: The Anthology! The facilitator has suffered many obstacles this year (because 2020), but it’s finally up for pre-order. You can find it at this link:

There will be a paperback version too of course, but as I know from personal experience as a self-published author, Amazon doesn’t have the function of setting up pre-orders for physical copies (as it is a print-on-demand service). I am so relieved and excited to see the culmination of both mine and the efforts of my fellow authors in this anthology, and I cannot WAIT to see what people make of my short story, Evimeria.

Anyway, that’s the long and the short of it. I’m looking forward to holding the anthology in my hands, and to writing as many short stories as I can before I feel ready to tackle one of my novels-to-be again. It might be that I move on to editing The Mythos Trials, or it might be that I give Arcane Guardian (The Spectrum Chronicles, Forneus’s life more or less) its next round of edits. We’ll see. Thanks for reading, and until next time–TTFN! ^_^
